CONSCIOUSNESS TO FLESH (2015 - 17)

Three performances to camera recorded through photography and moving image.

In ‘Crucifix/ Plinth’ Miller seeks to deconstruct the passive representation of the female nude in antiquity and reposition it with an active sense of agency. In 'Chair Balance in a Shaft of Light/ Measuring the Wingspan of a Heron' her actions respond to the shifting light as it scans the space between her legs. The heron’s wing bone signifies a desire to look underneath appearances as way of unearthing the body to remind us of the human condition. 'Bouncing Chains' is an endurance based action that seeks to soften the solid state of the chains into guttural viscera to hint at interiority.
