ENTER THE RIVER (2016)
A series of outdoor site-responsive performances along The River Thames at high and low water recorded through photography and moving image.
When working in response to the river Miller placed herself along its banks and in its waters to be interrupted by its forces. Her clothes and wig act as agents of 'other', whilst river debris corrupts the surface of her skin as she resurrects lost bodies of matriarchy. With the added subtext exploring her identity and sexuality through a process and physical challenge that subverts doing and being. Influences include Roni Horn’s book ‘Another Water’ and Agnes Varda’s film ‘Vagabond’.
Materials: mud; river reeds
Second-hand clothes: brown leather jacket; beige trousers; auburn human hair wig; brown knee high 70’s snakeskin boots
