THORNS (2015 - 17)

A series of sculptural objects used in performance recorded through photography and moving image.

These weighted thorny objects for the hands and feet were made by Miller to be used in performance dripping in molasses. They affect her body’s movement and functionality, whilst their brutal appearance transforms her extremities into weapons. This is subverted through her animal like gestures of grooming and cleaning that advocate care and nurture as method to overcome violence.

Materials: metal tacks; second-hand leather shoes; second-hand leather glove; molasses
